Drowning in Plastic 🏊🏽

Plastic was invented in the late 19th century. We have produced approximately 9.2 billion tons of plastic since then. Of the  9.2 billion tons, 6.9 billion tons have become waste in our oceans today. There is no confirmed amount of of how much plastic there is in the ocean. But Jenna Jambeck a university engineering professor in 2015 estimated that there is between 5.3 million and 14 million tons of plastic just from coastal regions each year. You would think that it would come from ships dumping the waste into the ocean. But it actually comes from the land or rivers , where it is carelessly dumped. It eventually makes its way into the ocean.
